Backpack Buddies

While helping create a curriculum for Camp Gritty, a summer camp for women that I volunteer at, I came up with this project. Backpack Buddies were created as a way to help connect our campers with foster children in the area as they prepared for their school year.

All campers were given a plain backpack provided by Vans Girls, craft supplies provided by Camp Gritty, and the booklet created by me. The booklets provided some simple sewing techniques, examples of characters they could create, and step by step instructions on how to do so.

The idea was to have each camper create a character on a plain backpack. Once the backpack buddy was designed and assembled, they filled the backpack with school supplies and all backpacks were sent off to Youth Village in Nashville, TN.
